Growing up as a first-generation, Asian-American, I needed to be successful.

My parents defined success as a career in corporate america, medicine, or law. Art was out of the question.

Despite attending an art school where I painted seven plus hours a day, I was strongly encouraged to pursue a “real career”.

Fast forward a decade of being my parent’s image of success, it was time for me to redefine what success looks like.

With the support of friends and some family, Painted Water Works was born. Since its inception, many lessons have been learned, but many successes have been celebrated as well.

I sincerely hope you enjoy my work, as each piece is a reminder that success is what you, yourself, make it.

Best,

Crystal

“There’s something special about illustrating and painting a memory. Whether it is a childhood home or a wedding venue, to paint a significant place for someone is a blessing.”
